Match report
Sunday after saw the good ship Great Gadd set sail for the waters of Pirton. On winning the toss Cap'n decided to bat on a reasonable looking wicket. On opening the innings Midshipman Johnny Moore and Salty sea dog Stuart Upton soon discovered that this was not a wicket for plundering runs. With the score on 13 Johnny Moore departed in the 7th over, middling the first ball that almost reached knee height directly to point who took a smart catch on his toes, 13 for 1. Next to the wicket was Abdul Malik, press-ganged into playing for us by Bo'sun Usman. Abdul and Stuart moved the score along nicely, adding 26 runs in 6 overs before Abdul was torpedoed by a straight ball that quite simply pitched and did not get up above grass blade height. 39 for 2 became 39-3 when Stuart dragged a wide torpedo back onto the stumps. 39-3 became 40-4 as "The Legend" played across the line and fell into Davy Jones's locker. Usman fell soon after, torpedoed playing across the line. Kashif and Teesy both had their timbers shivered and we were floundering at 50 for 7. Amin and the cap'n added 21 before Amin fed the fish, out LBW playing across the line. Jordan came to the crease and batted sensibly before the cap'n put the telescope to his blind eye, declared I see no fielders and called Jordan for a quick single. Unfortunately cover picked up the ball and ran Jordan out. Paul Dimmock came to the crease and helped the skipper navigate the ship to 100 runs and tea.
Abdul and Kashif opened the bowling and with the first over going for 12 it looked like this was going to be a short game. After eight overs some excellent bowling it was 20-3. Stuart and the skipper bowled tightly for 8 overs leaving Pirton on 59-6. Paul Dimmock replaced the skipper and bowled very tightly to continue to build the pressure. Stuart claimed two crucial wickets, Pirton were 73-8 and the treasure was there for the taking. Amin replaced Stuart, bowled very tightly and claimed the key wicket of the Pirton skipper. Kashif replaced the miserly Paul and removed the last batsmen LBW. Special mention goes to Teesy for an excellent display behind the stumps, 2 stumpings, 2 catches and very few extras (apart from the strategic use of the helmet to convert byes to penalty runs).
Good bowling, good keeping and a good performance in the field meant the victory was well deserved
