Luton Town & Indians IV v Great Gaddesden Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 06 May 2017 at 1pm
Great Gaddesden Cricket Club Won : Gadd 334 for 9 off 50 overs, LT&I 66 ao off 16.3 overs

Match report GGCC travelled to Luton Town Indians for their first league game of 2017, hoping to put the travesties of 2016 behind them. Upon arriving at the ground they encountered a pitch that was slightly different to the road they have recently been used to batting on and was slightly under prepared
The bad news didn’t stop there as the captain and his opening partner were delayed getting to the ground after having to price a multi-million pound job at the last minute. However he did give strict instructions to win the toss and bat, which raised several eyebrows from the players actually present at the ground. Out to the middle went stand in tosser Crawley who promptly loss the toss, and the opposition wasted no time in sticking us in to bat.
With the two openers still not present replacement ones were summoned but just in the nick of time the cheese men arrived and strapped up for battle.
The captains new policy this year of positive batting once again paid dividends and 13 runs were taken off a very wayward first over and it soon became apparent that Luton were maybe missing the odd player or 11.
Both Johns set about the bowling of varying abilities and were scoring at a rate rarely seen and the 50 partnership was brought up in the 7th over. Junior cruised to another 50 and was promptly undone by the best ball of the day, and also the fatal comment from the side lines that we couldn’t see him getting out.
Senior passed 50 now with Phil at the crease and they added another 71 runs before senior decided that he wanted to put the ball into the bowls green, swung hard and missed by a mile. Stand in tosser Crawley decided to use his pad instead of the bat to fall for 9 which brought the heavy set pair of Humphreys and Warren together. Generous field settings enabled both batsmen to rotate the strike at ease and hit the boundaries as and when needed, Phil soon passed his own 50 which was for him sedate and Paul followed bringing his up 50 with a six and then promptly fell caught on the long on boundary. Wickets soon started falling at regular intervals but an excellent knock of 22 from Tom soon brought up the 300 and the mighty Gadd closed out on an impressive 334-9. The bad news was that Luton were so slow in their over rate that it took over 3 ½ hours to bowl their overs.
After tea the players emerged from the changing room with plenty of layers on, except Phil, and prepared themselves for a long, cold and late finish to the game. 16.3 over later they returned to the pavilion having bowled Luton out. Excellent bowling from Paul (4-8) ripped the top order out as the ball swung round corners and the return of team no direction in Tom and Jimmy finished off the job with Jimmy finishing on 3-8 and Tom on 1-8. Jimmies bowling was even more impressive given he hadn’t bowled a ball for 7 months, had not netted and was cold as hell. Imagine what he can do if he actually practised?
A good win never the less and a swift return to the home of cricket for some to watch the tail end of the 2`s game
