Tewin v Great Gaddesden Cricket Club Saturday 1st XI on Sat 21 May 2016 at 13:00
Great Gaddesden Cricket Club Won by 6 wickets
Match report
GGCC done the perfect smash and grab as they beat Tewin by 6 wickets.
Even with a depleted team with the eldest of elder statemans Dickie was called up and even more shockingly Colin Farenden also got the nod. Captain Teasy missed another game so vice skipper John Cheeseman Jnr stepped up. John won the toss again and elected to bowl. With rain scheduled GGCC needed to get wickets and get them early and regularly and that is exactly what happened. The first wicket was after a stunning one handed catch by Carl Ambrose from the bowling of John Cheeseman Jnr which was the start of a very successful day for Carl. Opening bowlers Paul & John kept it pretty tight as did Stuart Oliver who was required to bowl 5 overs but it was star of the day Ambrose who got 6 wickets in all different fashions. His first a solid catch by Stuart Bailey, Carl also got 2 x bowled, 2 x caught behind and a great catch in the deep by John Cheeseman Snr who was then moaning about his legs hurting and nails bleeding from biting too much!! Bowlers were backed up well in the field and Stuart Upton n Cheesy Jnr mopped up the tail as Tewin faultered to 69 all out as the clouds began to get darker.
GGCC knew they had to get the run quickly as lunch was agreed to be had at 4pm, so with that in mind the skipper opened with JC Snr and Phil the Power Warren to try and get runs quickly. Phil hit a quick 10, then in went Fothers who kept very well earlier in the day to try and get to the total quickly. Dave got to 10 like Phil, Senior & Junior both got 5 but it was big Paul Humphreys who batted extrmely well to take GGCC to the 70 target at 3:58pm in 14.5 overs with a good knock of 28 NOT OUT.
Game won and by the time showers & lunch were had the skies opened and didn't look like stopping. A good win from the lads who play St Margs next.
